Two city prosecutors working for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office suddenly resigned Wednesday without an explanation from the government office, according to several news reports including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and New York Post

The departure of the two assistant district attorneys, Mark Pomerantz and Carey Dunne come after several weeks in which a Manhattan grand jury heard evidence. The grand jury is saddled with the responsibility of presenting a case to anywhere between 16 and 23 jurors, whose job it is to determine if there is enough evidence to get a true bill for an indictment against the former president.

For several weeks, news outlets and pundits anticipated an indictment since two of the testifying witnesses were David Bender, Trump’s longtime accountant from the Mazars USA firm, and Rosemary Vrablic, the mogul’s Deutsche Bank private banker. Many suspected both witnesses harbored a treasure trove of financial information about how the billionaire real estate developer managed his money and investments.

A spokeswoman for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said the office was appreciative of the prosecutors' service and added that the investigation was continuing, but declined to comment further.

To date, no criminal charges have been filed against Trump as a result of the ongoing probe.
