A pair of Mexican and Nicaraguan migrants are accused of raping a woman at knifepoint in Coney Island after attacking the alleged victim’s boyfriend after he tried to save her, according to police sources who spoke to the New York Post.
The purported sexual assault occurred outside a hotel being used by migrants at Surf Avenue and 16th Street around 9 p.m. Sunday, according to law enforcement sources.
Police say David Davon-Bonilla, a 24-year old Nicaraguan migrant allegedly grabbed the 46-year-old victim, tackled her to the ground and raped her while threatening her with a knife to her throat.
The second suspect, whom police identified as Mexican migrant Leovando Moreno, 37, is accused of attacking the woman’s 34-year-old boyfriend with an object when he tried to save his girlfriend, the police said.
Davon-Bonilla, who previously lived at a La Quinta Hotel on Third Avenue, which being used as a migrant shelter, was charged by the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office with first-degree rape, second-degree assault, first-degree sexual abuse, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, the Post reported.
Moreno was charged with second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police said the female victim transported to Coney Island Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
Her boyfriend declined medical attention at the scene.
In a Monday evening update published by The New York Post, the newspaper revealed the horrific incident “wasn’t the first sex crime bust for Davon-Bonilla, who is believed to have crossed the U.S. border illegally in Texas in December 2022.”
Four months later, he was charged with allegedly raping a woman at the Park Slope La Quinta Hotel.
The 24-year old spent about a year in jail before taking a plea deal that resulted a June release, according to Brooklyn prosecutors and New York corrections officials.
The La Quinta Inn Davon-Bonilla was previously housed at was temporarily shut down for repairs earlier this year, and the migrants housed there were relocated to other shelters, according to a May 7 report published by NY1 Spectrum News.
