An illegal immigrant was arrested last week for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl in his vehicle in upstate New York.

Sakir Akkan, 21, forced the girl into his car a month ago after threatening to hit her with a metal pipe near Albany Medical Center, according to court documents obtained by the Albany Times Union.

The incident began after midnight on May 14, when the teenager left a foster home on New Scotland Avenue without permission. The young woman stated that Akkan approached her in a green Toyota Prius, got out and threatened her with a metal bar to get her into the car.

The suspect, a Turkish migrant who had been detained seven months ago by San Diego Border Patrol agents after illegally crossing the border, allegedly drove to an isolated area of South Pearl Street and again threatened the teenager with the metal pipe if she did not.

According to police reports, the accused ordered her to go to the back seat, where he allegedly took off her clothes and raped her.

Court documents indicate that the victim suffered scratches on his legs while trying to resist the attack.

After the rape, police say that Akkan allowed the young girl to get out of his car and leave. The victim ran to a nearby residence to ask for help.

Security cameras helped identify and track the movements of Akkan, who had a New Jersey driver's license. His car had New Jersey license plates that were registered to another Toyota Prius, but it is unclear if the plates were stolen.

Immigration records obtained by the Albany Times Union indicate that Akkan had sought asylum after being detained by border officials last year, but following his arrest for alleged rape last week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents served a federal arrest warrant at the Albany County Jail.

Court documents indicate that the migrant is being accused of first-degree rape. He has remained in the Albany County Jail without bail since his arrest.
