Ramiro Sanchez, a 55-year-old construction worker from Mexico, was stabbed in the face, hands, and back by a man he bumped into at a subway station in Brooklyn, authorities said on Thursday.

According to Univision's report, the Hispanic is currently in intensive care and struggling to survive after the attack.

Sanchez's employer said he was returning home when he accidentally bumped into a man at the station entrance. The individual pulled out a knife and slashed his hand, face, and back.

He described the migrant as hardworking, sending money to his family in Mexico.

"A very special person, he helps the guys who come in new, teaches them to work; he doesn't deserve it," he added.

According to NYPD statistics, crime on public transportation has increased by 50% this year.

A New York man was arrested in June after stabbing two people in less than 24 hours in unprovoked subway attacks. The man had been arrested previously and released from jail the day before the attacks, according to a report.

Both victims were transported to the hospital.

Earlier in March, an 18-year-old woman was punched several times in the face by an assailant in a New York subway station.
