A New York man was arrested this weekend after stabbing two people in less than 24 hours for unprovoked attacks in the subway. The man had been arrested but released from jail the day before the attacks, according to a report.

Donny Ubiera, 32, was arrested on Saturday after stabbing two people over the weekend.

The day before the first attack, on Wednesday, police received a call reporting a man with a knife. Police encountered Ubiera, who refused to release the weapon.

Ubiera tried to escape from the officers but was eventually caught and put in jail. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and controlled substance, and reckless endangerment.

After spending the night in prison, police let Ubiera walk out on Thursday.

On Friday, the suspect carried out his first unprovoked attack. He slashed a 62-year-old man on his face on a southbound seven train at around 8:40 a.m., reported the New York Police Department.

The next day at around 7:15 a.m., Ubiera allegedly stabbed a 55-year-old man in the neck on a seven train platform at the 74 Street-Broadway train station in Jackson Heights, the NYPD said.

Police claimed that both attacks were unprovoked.

Ubiera was arrested 12 hours after the incident on Saturday near Flushing. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault, and weapons possession.

Both victims were taken to the hospital. While the 55-year-old is in critical condition, both are expected to recover.
