A woman with a suspended license was charged after she caused an accident involving a New York City public bus and six other vehicles that left 14 people injured, authorities said.
Chandiana Jean was driving near Essex Street and New Lots Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn on Sunday night at around 8:30 p.m. when she caused a chain-reaction crash, according to police.
Jean’s 2003 Chevy Impala first hit a 2021 Toyota Sienna that was being driven by a 22-year-old man. The impact of the crash pushed the Sienna onto a busy roadway, causing it to scratch into a 2006 Ford Escape SUV driven by a 55-year-old male. Jean continued to drive her car through the intersection, crashing into a B15 MTA bus making its way to a stop during its trip to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Jean sustained minor injuries and was transported to Jamaica Hospital. A 44-year-old passenger riding in Jean’s car was critically injured and transported to Brookdale University Medical Center. A 26-year-old male also riding in her car sustained minor injuries.
Eight people onboard the MTA bus were hospitalized due to the accident. Seven of the passengers, aged between 20 and 60 sustained minor injuries. The bus driver, a 38-year-old man, suffered a broken rib. They were all taken to several hospitals in the area to receive treatment.
The 22-year-old driver of the Toyota Sienna was also injured, sustaining back and neck injuries. He was transported to Brookdale Hospital. Additionally, the two other individuals inside the Sienna—a 43-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman—were taken to the hospital over minor injuries.
Similarly, the 55-year-old driver of the Ford Escape sustained minor injuries and was taken to Kings County Hospital Center.
After the accident, police charged Jean with aggravated unlicensed operator and possession of a forged instrument because she was driving an unregistered car, according to a New York Police Department spokesperson.
