A Brooklyn mother is accused of fatally beating her youngest daughter, who pleaded with her to help her as she agonized in pain, prosecutors said on Tuesday after the woman appeared in a Brooklyn Criminal Court.

Little Shalom Guifarro, 9, did not give up hope that her mother, Shemene Cato, 48, would show her mercy after an hours-long brutal beating.

"Mommy, help me," the girl allegedly begged as she clung to life, court documents indicate. Cato was charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, assault, and other crimes in the death of her infant daughter.

According to Brooklyn District Attorney David Ingle, Cato beat Guifarro and her 13-year-old sister, who managed to escape the brutal assault and called 911 to come to their home in Crown Heights, reports the New York Post.

"As detailed in the complaint, a medical examiner determined that Shalom suffered multiple blunt force impact injuries to his head and body, resulting in internal bleeding that ultimately caused his death," Ingle said.

In a complaint, prosecutors said that Cato allegedly hit her two daughters after they lost a computer tablet, which caused Shalom to run away and hide under the bed, according to Telemundo.

Later, the mother lifted the bed and dropped it on her youngest daughter's head, ignoring the little girl's pleas for help as she bled internally, the complaint continues.

After Cato dropped the bed on her daughter, the child was motionless. "Shalom couldn't stand up, was unresponsive, and would say, 'Mommy, help me,'" Ingle said.

The Brooklyn Criminal Court ordered Cato to be held without bail.

"Our top priority is to protect the safety and well-being of New York City's children. We are investigating this case with the NYPD and have taken steps to ensure the safety of the other child in this home," said a spokesperson for the Administration for Child Protective Services.
