A man found a bag of human remains in the basement of his home in Queens. He told detectives that he might know who the bones belong to.

A 65-year-old man called the police after he discovered a bag of bones in his home off of 138th Avenue in Laurelton at around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday while he was cleaning his home.

The bones were hidden in a hole in the ground that was covered with plywood, said a senior police official. The remains were inside a plastic bag.

Police arrested the man’s 30-year-old son, Josh Legendre, who had been living in the basement. Legendre was charged with concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence.

Sources said that the homeowner had suspicions about the victim’s identity. New York Police Department (NYPD) investigators said the bones might belong to the son’s girlfriend. She was last seen fourth months ago, according to sources.

The cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office. No other details were shared about the remains.

The investigation is still ongoing.
