Pop star Taylor Swift started her “Eras Tour” in Mexico City this weekend, sending shockwaves of excitement throughout the city as fans poured in to see the American singer.

The 33-year old Pennsylvania Native’s Mexican fans stood in line for hours to buy tour merchandise and exchanged friendship bracelets.

Some were excited to hear their icon make a few comments in Spanish.

"After years of wanting to play in Mexico City, just got to play 4 of the most unforgettable shows for the most beautiful and generous fans," Swift wrote on Instagram on Monday.

“Feeling so grateful for the memories we're making together on this tour ... TE AMO," she added, adding a Mexican flag emoji.

Social media videos depicted Mexican fans exchanging friendship bracelets with inscriptions like “Teylor Suif,” and “Taynochtitlan,” a play on the name of the former Aztec capital, “Taymalez.”

One video showed a fan paying homage to a statue of Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rain and lightning by leaving a friendship bracelet there, ostensibly so it wouldn’t rain during the upcoming concert.

Swift’s Mexican fan base was so excited that even government officials couldn’t resist but join in. Video published on Twitter depicted Supreme Court Justice Arturo Zaldívar  exchanging bracelets with other fans.

Swift was recorded appearing to say “Te amo,” Spanish for “I love you,” to a young fan at one of the sold-out show in Foro Sol, and later handed her microphone to a backup dancer who also sang Spanish lyrics during their performance of “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

Other fans cheered, “Taylor hermana ya eres Mexicana!” (Taylor sister you’re already Mexican!).

“Outside Foro Sol, an unofficial “merch market” sold posters of Swift as the Virgin Mary as well as T-shirts and sweatshirts displaying the singer in her many musical facets. Fans following the show online praised the creative designs and lively spirit of the market,” according to a report published by NBC Latino.

One of Swift’s die-hard fans, Kevin Thébar, who already attended two of the singer’s Mexico City shows, said the Eras Tour was a life changing experience that he described as the “before and after” in his life.

“Not just in my life, but the life of all the fans who waited more than 10 years and all those new fans who had the chance to see and listen to her entire musical career in one concert,” the young Mexican fan said in a message to NBC News in Spanish.

“Beyond that, the fact that she brought her entire production is a huge step in how concerts are done in Mexico.”

The Eras Tour, is now finishing in the United States, has drawn attention from Swift’s fans from across the globe. The American singer is scheduled to continue her Latin American tour dates in November with nine shows across South America in Argentina and Brazil.

Swift started her musical career at only nine-years old with local theater productions.

She was inspired to sing country music by her idol, Shania Twain and moved the Nashville, Tennessee after watching a documentary about singer Faith Hill where she did karaoke covers of Dolly Parton and the Dixie Chicks.

The music industry began to showcase Swift in Nashville outlets in 2005, and by 2006 she released “Taylor Swift.” Her second album, “Fearless” was released in 2008. In 2009, her video, “You Belong With Me,” was named Best Female Video by MTV.
