After four years of silence, Luis Miguel is back, and with invigorating energy on every stage throughout all of the Americas. The Mexican performer, whose former name is Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, just finished touring South America and is now planning on performing in the United States. His next performances are set to open in Las Vegas Sept. 15-16, Southern California from Sept. 20-21 and then the Midwest and Manhattan in late September and Miami in mid-October.

2023-2024 Tour: The first of 129 concerts

Last month, the singer performed in Buenos Aires before an audience of more than 15,000 people, the first of 129 concerts he will give throughout the entire Western Hemisphere until June 2024. The tour is broken into two legs with 34 shows in South America, 90 in North America, and five in Central America.

Luis Miguel’s Aug. 3 opening night in Buenos Aires roused significant attention throughout the city. Hundreds of fans waited for the musician at the luxury hotel where he was staying while others gathered at the Movistar Arena for the first of the 10 recitals he was scheduled to perform in Argentina.

He began his maiden concert in the South American country with one of his iconic songs, Sera que no me amas, sparking emotions, marking the beginning of more than 50 songs with images from over three decades of his career playing in the stage’s background.

The first part of the concert included Suave, Culpable o no, and Hasta que me olvides, as well as interpretations of Mexican tangos, such as Por una cabeza.

The show was one of the 10 dates he performed at the Movistar Arena, where he featured his show until Aug. 18.

At 53 years old, Luis Miguel still has a loyal fan base in Buenos Aires, where he once appeared on a television show for the first time as a teenager. In recent years, fans that followed him since his earliest days were joined by those who also recently began following him as a result of Luis Miguel: The Series, featured prominently on Netflix.

Luis Miguel: Sold Out

As soon as the singer’s return to the stage was announced with four words “Luis Miguel. Tour 2023” the news went viral across the internet. Despite Argentina’s ongoing economic crisis, the star’s high ticket prices did not stop the first show and follow up performances from selling out within minutes.

More concerts have already been added to his tour schedule as a result of high demand. A total of 129 performances will be held in total with his tour currently scheduled to finish this year on New Year’s Eve on Dec. 31 in Riviera Maya, a tourism and resort district in Cancun, Mexico.

The final show will conclude next year on June 16, 2024 in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The mystery that surrounds “El Sol De México”

Luis Miguel, is commonly known throughout Mexico is often called “The Son of Mexico” or in Spanish, “El Sol De México.” In actuality however, he is the son of Luis Rey, a modest Spanish singer who lived in Mexico, and Marcela Basteri, an Italian actress who vanished under mysterious circumstances when Luis Miguel was just a teenager.

In Latin American entertainment, Basteri’s disappearance has become one of the most notorious unsolved missing persons cases. She was last seen in Spain more than 35 years ago.

To date, hundreds of people and private investigators have investigated her disappearance, sparking several crime theories online about murder, which also became the central theme of the Netflix series about the singer’s life.

A musical sensation for more than four decades

When Luis Miguel was 12 years old, he had already performed on stage and recorded his first album.

In the beginning, his father always played his guitar and participated in his performances. Since he began working in the industry, the young up and comer captivated the public with his voice and charisma, making it irresistible for Mexican record producers to ignore him.

The world famous artist won his first Grammy when he was just 15 years old.

From the very beginning of his career, the public adored Luis Miguel, and despite his extroverted stage image, he was an introverted and discreet boy struggling against the obstacles of the hard entertainment world.

At the age of 18, with six recorded albums and breaking records in Latin American music charts with his single, La Incondicional, he decided to put himself under the direction of a representative instead of his father.

While he faced difficulties in the difficult and competitive world of entertainment, his fame continued to grow, reaching levels no Latino artist had ever achieved.

In 1991, he became the first Latin artist to be awarded a gold record in the United States for the sale of a Spanish-language album. In the following year, he won the Billboard awards for “Best Latin Artist,” “Best Album,” and “Best Artist of the Song in Spanish.”

Throughout the years, the Mexican music star has won many awards and recognitions, and toured the world extensively, selling an impressive number of records.

Among the most significant moments in Luis Miguel's career was the recording of the duet 'Come Fly with Me' with Frank Sinatra, which was also featured in the television special 'Sinatra Duets'.

As a result, he received an invitation in 1995 to participate in 'Sinatra: 80 Years My Way', which included such outstanding artists as Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen, Natalie Cole, and Bob Dylan

As part of his 1996 soundtrack work, Luis Miguel recorded two tracks, one for the film 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' and the other for 'Speechless' 2 years prior. He was awarded his star on the Hollywood Boulevard walk of fame in Miami, Florida, that same year.

Throughout his career, the Latin musical sensation won many awards from various organizations including Grammy, Billboard, Lo Nuestro, and numerous others.

He also started producing several of his albums and became the highest paying Latin artist in Las Vegas. As a result of his success, the star has been regarded as one of the artists who have spread the bolero genre throughout the world, topping the charts time and time again, even overcoming American music legends such as Paul McCartney.

His sales record (of records and concert tickets) exceeded that of artists such as Elton John and Celine Dion. Also, 'El Sol de México' transcended geographical barriers, and he gained fame not only in Latin America, the United States, and Europe, but also in Asia.

He also made history with his series of 30 consecutive concerts at the National Auditorium in Mexico City, which attracted 300,000 people.

Despite numerous controversies in his life, Luis Miguel’s private life has been marked by silence,  occasionally interrupted by the fame of his partners, such as Mariah Carey, and then Aracely Arambula, with whom he had two sons, Miguel, born on Jan. 1, 2007, and Daniel, born on Dec. 18, 2008.
