A fraternity at the University of Miami was ordered to shut down after a video surfaced showing members singing a chant about killing and raping women.
A video from a party hosted off-campus in early October in Coral Gables shows members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter chanting about sexually assaulting a dead woman.
"We dig her up every now and then, yo-ho, yo-ho. We dig her up every now and then. We f--- her once. We’ll f--- her again," said the chant posted in the video.
Additionally, several women who attended the party reported getting sick from drugged drinks.
“Me and my other friend had like white powder in our drinks,” said Abby, a SigEp party-goer. “I hadn’t seen that before.”
The fraternity’s national board of directors "unanimously decided to revoke the charter of the chapter at University of Miami,” said Sigma Phi Epsilon national Headquarters chief communications officer Heather Matthews.
The video shows “SigEp members violating policy and engaged in misogynist actions that are not aligned with the values of this Fraternity," Matthews added.
“The University of Miami continually communicates a clear set of policies and expectations to all of our Greek organizations that are designed to encourage a safe, healthy, and positive experience for UM students. We support their decision to close the chapter effective immediately,” University of Miami Senior Vice President for Student Affairs Patricia A. Whitely said in a statement.
"We have partnered with Sigma Phi Epsilon for 73 years, and we support their decision to close the chapter effective immediately," Whitney added.
