A MetroLink service vehicle, operated by Miami-Dade County, caused outrage in the community by displaying a digital message in favor of Cuban dictators Fidel and Raúl Castro, according to a report published by Periodico Cubano.
The illuminated message, which read “Vida Fidel y Raúl,” was recorded by drivers and passersby last weekend at the intersection of 8th Street NW and 49th Street, provoking an immediate reaction among local residents.
The video was quickly spread on social networks, generating confusion and annoyance among netizens and intensifying the controversy around the public service.
The incident was captured on video by Dayán Ramírez, who could not hide his astonishment when he saw the sign on the bus.
“I saw it from afar and couldn't believe it, so I decided to get closer to confirm what was happening,” Ramírez said as quoted by Telemundo51.
For his part, resident Idael Díaz made the decision to contact the Miami-Dade Dept. of Transportation & Public Works to file a formal complaint.
“I could not allow a message like that to circulate through the streets of Miami,” a conncerned Díaz explained.
The department confirmed to Díaz that it is aware of the situation and that an investigation is already underway.
MetroLink, a new mobility option in Miami-Dade County, provides residents with important connections to other modes of transportation and key destinations such as the Airport, Tri-Rail, Miami Beach, Alton Road and other high-frequency routes.
