Multi-platinum pop sensation and a beloved celebrity Britney Spears announced this week that she signed a book deal with publishing house Simon & Schuster – a move rumored to be worth as much as $15 million.
After riding out a bidding war between multiple agencies, Spears will work with the publisher to release a tell-all memoir about her career, her “Toxic” life and all of the surrounding family drama, Page Six reported.
According to insiders, the 40-year-old pop legend has wanted to publish a memoir since her younger sister, Jamie Lynn, published “Things I Should Have Said” in January of this year – a book whose claims left Britney fuming.
Last month, Britney took to Instagram to “congratulate” her younger sister, writing, “Congrats best seller…..The nerve of you to sell a book now and talk s—t but your f—king lying…..I wish you would take a lie detector test so all these masses of people see you’re lying through your teeth about me.”
Following the release of Jamie Lynn’s book, Britney’s lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, issued a strongly worded cease-and-desist order, asserting that the pop star will “no longer be bullied” by her family.
“Although Britney has not read and does not intend to read your book, she and millions of her fans were shocked to see how you have exploited her for monetary gain. She will not tolerate it, nor should she,” the letter read.
But Britney has allegedly been set on writing a book since her 13-year-long conservatorship finally ended in November of last year.
In early January, she hinted on Instagram that she had started writing, sharing a photo of a typewriter with the text, “Shall I start from THE BEGINNING???”
Britney also pointed at a potential new music project – the first in five years – by sharing a video of herself dancing to Instagram, writing, “This is a tease of what’s to come !!!!”
