Academy Award winning actress Susan Sarandon is the subject of online fury after sharing a message to Twitter comparing police officers gathered to pay their respect to fallen NYPD officers to fascists.

On Wednesday, Sarandon shared a tweet written by podcaster Danny Haiphong which showed a photo of police officers lining the streets of New York City. Above the text, the podcaster wrote, “I’m gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like.”

To that already polemic tweet, Sarandon added the text, “So if all these cops weren’t needed for CRIME that day, doesn’t that mean they aren’t needed ANY day?"

Officers Rivera and Wilbert Mora were shot on the evening of Jan. 21 while responding to a report of a domestic violence incident in Harlem involving a mother and her adult son, Lashawn McNeil, Fox News reported.

Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue was a sea of blue on Thursday as the hearse carrying Rivera’s remains made its way from a funeral home in the Bronx to St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland landed at New York’s JFK Airport Thursday afternoon ahead of his meeting with Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul to discuss the city’s surging gun violence crisis and assess a "comprehensive strategy to combat gun crime.”

Although residents of New York City have felt the impact of rising crime, they expect “absolutely nothing” to come from President Biden’s Thursday meeting with the recently-elected mayor of the Big Apple.
