The victims are all Aurora Central High School students, ranging from ages 14 to 18. All were transported to a hospital and all injuries are non-life-threatening, Aurora police chief Vanessa Wilson said at a news conference.
"I need us all to be outraged by what happened here today," Wilson said. "When I got the call my heart dropped. This is a public health crisis."
The shooting appeared to be a drive-by, Wilson said. The police believe there are multiple suspects. However, there are no leads as to who they are.
One witness described hearing 30 to 50 gunshots.
The police are still attempting to gather information on the case. Wilson urged residents of the area to help the police investigation by sending their home surveillance footage.
Nome Park has been the location of other violent crimes, including a gang-related shooting in 2019 and two aggravated assaults earlier this year.
In 2012, there was a mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora that resulted in 12 people dead and 70 injured.
