A video posted Sunday, which has more than 1 million views according to Newsweek, shows the man walking with the mine in his hands in the southern Ukrainian port city of Berdyansk. The man moved the mine to a nearby forest while a bystander recorded the action.
According to a description of the video, the man allegedly took the landmine to clear the road for the Ukrainian military. Other posts, however, claim the man removed the mine after finding it near some houses in the area.
The mine was an anti-tank variety, reported Daily Mail and quoted by Newsweek. The TM-62 landmine was allegedly placed under a nearby bridge by Russian forces, reported the New York Post.
The clip is just one of the images emerging in the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, where civilians and soldiers have gone to great lengths to try to get the Russian military to back down.
Trending among such stories is the tale of the so-called "Ghost of Kyiv," a Ukrainian fighter pilot that allegedly shot down at least six Russian aircraft. This would make the pilot the first "Ace" (a term given to any military pilot who shoots down at least five enemy aircraft) of the 21st century and the first in Europe since World War II, according to Newsweek.
Although there is no evidence of the existence of the "Ghost pilot", Valerii Zaluzhnyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, reported after the first day of fighting that at least six Russian aircraft have been shot down.
