A New York Taxi ran over three people and injured several others after it collided with a bicycle and hopped onto a busy sidewalk in Midtown Manhattan, authorities said on Monday.
According to New York Police Department (NYPD) officials, the 60-year-old cab driver was attempting to turn left onto Broadway at around 1 p.m. when he collided with a 50-year-old bicyclist on a CitiBike.
Police believe the driver panicked and hit the gas instead of the break. As a result, the cab driver veered left and hopped onto the curb between 28th and 29th Street, plowing through several people.
Two women were hit by the car and got pinned between the vehicle and a building. Some 15 to 20 bystanders rushed to the scene to help lift the car off of the women. The police described the New Yorker’s heroic actions as a “remarkable scene.”
