A once-hailed Manhattan doctor has been found guilty on a dozen counts of sex crimes, including rape and sexual abuse, after a monthlong trial that saw shocking claims of persistent professional malfeasance from the physician.
Ricardo Cruciani was found guilty on Friday for “the sexual assault, abuse, and rape of six patients under his care at the Beth Israel Medical Center,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said in a press release.
Cruciani “not only forced his patients to have non-consensual sex, but overprescribed serious pain medication in order to keep them in his care,” Bragg said. The doctor was found guilty of seven third-degree criminal sexual acts and multiple other charges.
“I hope this conviction serves as a measure of justice for the brave survivors who came forward to share their stories and endured this long and painful trial,” Bragg said.
Cruciani will be sentenced in September.
