The man suspected of shooting and killing a New York City subway rider in broad daylight Sunday handed his gun to a homeless man who later sold it to a third person, according to NYPD sources.

Daniel Enriquez, a 48-year-old Goldman Sachs employee, was headed to brunch on the northbound Q train when a gunman fatally shot him in the chest “without provocation.”

The suspect fled after the train pulled into the Canal Street station.

Surveillance footage showed him running up the stairs, where he handed the pistol to a nearby homeless man before running away, according to the sources.

Further investigation said the homeless man sold the handgun to a third man for $10 and a bag of cocaine, reports the New York Post.

The homeless man was taken into custody and charged with possession of a deadly weapon, according to the source.

The third man turned the handgun in to investigators back at the scene at the Canal Street station but was not arrested. He told the officers neither he nor the seller were responsible for the shooting.

The shooter is still on the loose as of Monday evening. Police say he is a dark-skinned and heavyset male with a beard last seen wearing a gray Aeropostale hoodie, grey sweatpants and white sneakers.

Enriquez was the son of Mexican immigrants and a “typical New Yorker.”

"We were born in South Williamsburg and enjoyed the rich New York culture our whole lives. Mom made arroz con gandules for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We drank Manischewitz and observed Passover,” said his sister Griselda Vile.

NYC mayor Eric Adams called the shooting New Yorkers’ “worst nightmare” on Monday. This latest incident is the city’s fourth subway homicide this year.
