Ayala-Alcántara was on the FBI's most-wanted criminal list and had an arrest warrant in Houston, Texas.

He was arrested last Tuesday, April 18, in Mexico City in an operation coordinated with the support of agents from the Mexican Navy-Navy Secretariat (Semar) and the National Intelligence Center (CNI).

The Mexican authorities said that the detainee of Salvadoran nationality was wanted for homicide, aggravated robbery, possession of a weapon of war, use of false documentation, among other crimes.

Thanks to an informant, the authorities located him with a false identity, in the municipalities of Mixquiahuala and Tunititlán, in Hidalgo, as well as in the center of Mexico City.

Ayala-Alcántara had been formally charged on Feb. 23, 2023, following the arrests of other MS-13 members linked to him: Vladimir Antonio Arévalo Chávez, Walter Yovani Hernandez Rivera, and Marlon Antonio Menjivar Portillo.
