Long Island mom accused of running over son bully to avenge son 

A Long Island mom allegedly ran over her son’s 15-year-old bully twice as she sought to avenge her son, authorities said. 

Jennifer Nelson, 35, was charged with attempted murder after she hit the teen with her car at a high in the parking lot of a Manhattan Bagel shop on October 7. When the teenager fell to the ground after being struck, she then ran over him two more times before leaving the scene without reporting the incident.

The teenager suffered a string of serious injuries, including fractures to the pelvis, fractured ribs, and a punctured lung. 

Nelson believed the 15-year-old victim had bullied and robbed her son in the parking lot of the school on the day of the incident.  

“This defendant — an adult — allegedly thought she could take the law into her own hands to kill a 15-year-old in the process,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement Monday.

“This defendant’s incredibly misguided attempt to avenge the alleged victimization of her own child is no excuse,” he said. “Citizens cannot take the law into their own hands, and should instead work with law enforcement and my office to seek justice in every case.”

To cover up her actions and mislead police, Nelson traded in her leased Honda Passport for a different car, according to the prosecutors. 

A subsequent investigation found that the 15-year-old boy that was run over did not participate in the alleged robbing of Nelson’s son. 

Nelson is being held on a $1 million bond of $250,000 cash bail. Her next court date is March 21.
