A dog that escaped from its owners and leaped onto New York City’s subway tracks on Thursday was finally rescued, but not before causing delays on multiple subway lines.

The dog escaped and got onto the tracks near 86th Street and Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side at around 2:45 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

Emergency crews responded to the incident and searched for the lost pup. While transit authorities looked for the dog, the 4, 5, and 6 subway lines were halted both ways, causing delays for commuters during rush hour.

The dog was eventually found by a New York Police Department transit officer almost 60 blocks away at 23rd and Park underneath a train car at around 4 p.m. The dog was unharmed.

Police returned the dog to its worried owners. “Who let the dogs out?” the New York Police Department posted in a tweet along with the picture of the dog and its owners.

Train services in the 4, 5, and 6 lines resumed after the dog was found, but delays continued throughout the evening.

“No one likes a subway delay in the dog days of summer, but we had to fetch a runaway dog from the 4/5/6 tracks. Thankfully, the pup was rescued successfully and is now homeward bound,” the MTA posted in a tweet.

“Thank you for your patience as we resume service, and please remember to give your good bois and girls lots of pets today,” the agency continued.
