A man accused of gunning down a Queens Chinese food delivery man in a quarrel over duck sauce was freed on Monday after his brother paid a $500,000 bail.
Glenn Hirsch, 51, was charged with murdering Zhiwen Yan on April 30. He was originally held without bail on Rikers Island. However, at a court hearing on June 8, Holder agreed to a bail of $500,000 cash or a $10 million bond.
Queens Supreme Court Justice Kenneth Holder told Hirsh he was free to go while he awaits his trial if he adheres to strict guidelines, including the use of an ankle bracelet and limited mobility in the city.
“Anywhere you go that is outside your apartment is going to be restricted in terms of the time that you leave, the time that you remain out and the time that you return,” Holder told Hirsch.
“You go outside of the area, the location, if you end up in Manhattan, other areas of Queens, if you end up in Brooklyn or anywhere except a direct route to where you’re supposed to go, the sheriff’s department will pick you up and bring you back before me and I will remand you,” he added.
“And no matter how much money you have, you will not be coming out of jail until this case is over,” he continued.
In particular, Hirsch must stay away from the Great Wall restaurant, where Yan worked, and Lulu Laundry, his wife’s laundry business a block away.
Last year, Hirsch claimed that the Chinese restaurant had given him less duck sauce for his order. Since then, he continually harassed the restaurant’s owner and workers. Hirsch even shopped up to the restaurant twice with a gun and vandalized the owner’s car.
In April, Yan was shot in the chest while on his way to make a delivery near 108th Street and 67th Drive in Forrest Hills. Hirsch was captured in surveillance footage tailing the delivery man.
When the police arrested Hirsch in his apartment, they found a large stash of condiments inside his refrigerator, including piles of duck sauce.
