A 17-year-old boy died on Friday afternoon after being shot in the back multiple times in Harlem.

The incident took place at approximately 3 p.m. at St. Nicholas Avenue between West 148th and 149th street, according to police.

The teenager was in critical condition and rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Calvin Aaron from the Bronx.

Antonio Roboostoff, a resident of the neighborhood, was in his apartment looking outside of his window when he heard the gunshots. He saw people fleeing the scene and hiding behind cars.

“I was looking outside trying to catch a beat from the day we had and I heard ‘pop-pop-pop-pop’ and I see everyone running down the street,” said Roboostoff.

“I see people running down the subway and it’s just like chaos on this street, which I’ve never seen before. No one knew what was going on. It was a shock for so many people.”

In response to the shooting, NYPD sealed off Nicholas Avenue between West 148th and 149th streets for hours, thinking that the suspect might be hiding in a building nearby.

Police were looking for a man dressed in all black. However, sources said police might have received a false tip.

So far, no arrests have been made. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unknown.

This latest shooting in the Big Apple happened in the 30th Precinct, which has seen a 75% increase in shooting compared to the same time last year, according to NYPD statistics.
