The Golden State Warriors outscored the Boston Celtics 35-14 in the third quarter to win Game 2 of the NBA Finals 107-88 on Sunday at the Chase Center in San Francisco. It was the typical reaction of a winning team wounded in its pride. Their leader Stephen Curry was the catalyst for that effort, scoring 14 of his 29 points in the third quarter for a Warriors defense that did the rest.

In the first game of the Finals the story was different with Boston advancing in the last quarter. This time Golden State learned their lesson and closed the game with a more defensive frame that avoided surprises. The Warriors orchestrated runs of 13-2 and 19-2 during the third quarter with the help of Curry, who scored two straight three-pointers in the latter run. In addition, Jordan Poole scored a half-court shot to finish off the game. It was the third longest shot in Finals history, second only to 40-yard shots by Mario Chalmers of the Miami Heat and Mark Jackson of the Indiana Pacers.

Golden State had an 87-64 lead at the end of the third quarter and went on to have a 29-point difference in the fourth before pulling out the final 107-88 victory. Again Curry led the way for a stress-free finish, even though his squires Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green did not have a great game with 11, 11 and 9 points, respectively. But the second unit's contribution was critical with 17 points from Poole and 12 from Kevon Looney.

The Warriors are now 5-0 this postseason after one loss, outscoring their opponents by an average of 15.4 in those games. That points-per-game differential is the fifth-highest in the last 50 NBA postseasons.

For the Celtics, only star Jayson Tatum scored with 28 points, but Boston has a chance to strike back next Wednesday. The NBA Finals are now tied at one game apiece, and will be unbalanced at the TD Garden when Boston hosts Golden State in the third game of the best-of-seven series.
