North of the Border: 5 taco trucks in Los Angeles robbed in less than 2 hours

Five taco trucks in Los Angeles were the target of a string of armed robberies on Wednesday evening that lasted under two hours, the Los Angeles Police Department said. 

The first robbery took place at around 9:40 p.m. at a taco stand on Alvarado Street in Echo Park, LAPD said. The suspects pointed guns at the taco truck workers and got away with around $700 in cash. 

A while later, two other trucks were robbed in the Westlake District. One at Union Avenue and Shatto, and another at 3rd and Bixle Streets, the department said. 

A fourth robbery happened on Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood and a fifth in downtown Los Angeles, at 9th Street and Broadway, at around 11:30 p.m. During the last robbery, the suspects stole more than $600. 

“My employees were in there and they got robbed at gunpoint. They took out two guns on them and took all the cash and everything and then just took off,” said Ricardo Antonio, from Verdaderos Crazy Tacos.

"Our cook, they dragged her to the wall. They pushed her... Three of them came up, one of them was the driver. They went off and took off with the money," he added. 

In all five robberies, employees said the suspects wearing all black pointed guns to their heads and asked them for money—both from the taco stand but individual cash. 

So far, no arrests have been made. Police believe that the same group of suspects were responsible for the five robberies. In all incidents, the three men were seen getting away in a white Honda Civic.
