A 27-year-old Hispanic woman died this Friday after being hit by a hit-and-run driver in North Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Police identified the woman as Leyda Medina, who, around 7:00 p.m., was crossing a crosswalk at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue when she was struck by a westbound Toyota Corolla.

Medina, who was reportedly training for a marathon, was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.

“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Leyda tragically lost her life Friday night while jogging in North Hollywood. “It was a hit and run accident,” reads a text written on the GoFundMe fundraising page created by the family.

Funds raised will go directly to Medina's family to help cover funeral expenses, medical bills and provide some financial relief, the page states.

“Leyda was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. His loss will be deeply felt by many. We understand that these are difficult times for many people, but any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference,” the text concludes.

After the accident, the suspect abandoned the car next to a sidewalk on Victory Boulevard, east of Troost Avenue, and fled on foot.

Police said the suspect is a white man in his 50s "who fled the scene on foot without identifying himself or rendering aid, as required by law."

The Law indicates that when a driver is involved in an accident, they must stop as soon as possible, notify emergency services and remain at the scene until the authorities arrive.

A reward of up to $50,000 is being offered for information leading to the identification and capture of the suspect in the Medina case.
