Colombian actress Sofía Vergara divorced her husband, actor Joe Manganiello, after nearly eight years of marriage, she confirmed Monday to U.S. media.
Vergara and Manganiello announced the news exclusively to The New York Post's entertainment Page Six, noting that it was a "difficult decision to make."
“We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” the two actors said in a statement.
The "Modern Family" star is currently celebrating her 51st birthday in Italy with friends, but there was no sign of a wedding ring on her finger.
Vergara married Manganiello, who has acted in productions such as the series "True Blood" and the film "Magic Mike,” in a November 2015 Palm Beach, Florida ceremony after a romantic courtship that lasted just over a year.
Seven years later, the couple put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale last summer, according to a July 15, 2022 report published in the Los Angeles Times.
The couple put the mansion up for sale for $19.6 million, about twice what they paid in 2014.
This was the second marriage for Vergara, who first married when she was 18, to fellow Colombian Joe Gonzalez, with whom she had her only son, Manolo.
