Casting directors for Warner Bros. are seeking Latino actors to participate as extras in a new movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which is being filmed near the southwest U.S. border between California and Mexico.

The call for more Latino actors comes as the film enters the final days of production at the end of July, according to local media reports in Southern California.

The film is the latest effort by director Paul Thomas Anderson, nominated 11 times for the Oscar for best director, and remains a mystery, only operating under the provisional title of “BC Project.” According to The San Diego Tribune, the production is seeking more Latino actors to participate in the recording of final scenes in the film, which has a targeted release date of July 2025.

The project, which includes DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall among its cast, has been filming several action and chase scenes in recent weeks in the Anza-Borrego Desert, east of San Diego and a few miles north of the California border with Mexico.

The call is to record some night scenes in the city of San Diego.

The casting directors – Tracy Dixon and Kelly Hunt – are looking for Latino men, women and children to act as extras, according to the newspaper.

Although the plot of the film has not been revealed, it has been leaked to the media that the film is a modern adaptation of the novel, “Vineland” (1990), by American writer Thomas Pynchon.

Last January the production filmed several scenes in Northern California, in the Eureka region, where residents shared photos with the actors.

DiCaprio, who was born in Los Angeles, is coming off the success of his most recent Martin Scorsese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Penn, another Angeleno, most recently appeared in Gonzo Girl, a directorial debut from actress Patricia Arquette.
