The death of the former Chavista president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Tibisay Lucena, ignited social networks this Wednesday. After the announcement of her death, all kinds of memes and publications were immediately generated, accusing her of being one of those responsible for destroying democracy in Venezuela.

While the officials of the Nicolás Maduro regime mourned the death of Lucena, millions of Internet users took the opportunity to denounce what has happened in the country during the time she held her position, and a wave of mocking images flooded the Internet.

After hundreds of reactions of this type on social networks, Attorney General Tarek William Saab published a message on Twitter in which he denounced the comments about the death of the former Education minister as “hate speech," which he said did not represent any value as a form of free speech.

He referred to the online comments as "abhorrent misbehavior of users on social networks" who, "in the face of the unfortunate death of Tibisay Lucena, have devoted themselves to spewing hate speech," then adding that "these offenses do not represent any freedom of expression."

Saab's statements were not long in being answered by several netizens, who expressed concern if the dictatorship "will have cells for all Venezuelans" suggesting that if the regime wanted to silence criticism of Maduro and his top officials, they would have to imprison the entire country.

"And is it not a crime to change the will of the people at the ballot box for 14 years?" asked a user.

"They will come looking for me, because every time a Chavista dies I am going to celebrate," said a third.
