2 people fatally struck by subway train in New York City
Investigators believe the woman might have fallen between the cars when the train came to a stop and the man attempted to save her

Two people were fatally struck by a subway train in Manhattan on Tuesday morning, police reported.
According to initial police reports, a 44-year-old man jumped onto the tracks in front of the train at around 10:30 a.m. at the 6th Avenue and 14th Street subway stop in Chelsea. The man was found in a space between the train and the platform.
A 63-year-old woman was also hit by the incoming train. She was found under the train.
It is unclear how the two individuals ended up on the tracks. Investigators believe the woman might have fallen between the cars when the train came to a stop and the man attempted to save her.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said he doesn’t believe the incident was a criminal act.

“The investigators are doing their job [...] so they’re going to stitch it all together,” the mayor said. “But it does not appear to be a criminal act at this time.
The incident caused major delays in the L train in both directions, according to authorities.
L service is suspended in both directions between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq while NYPD investigates after a person was struck by a train at 6 Av.
