Actor Kevin Coster, whose politics frequently makes news, is supporting Liz Cheney, the Wyoming congresswoman who has broken with a large part of her Republican Party to help lead House Democrat's Jan. 6 probe.

Cheney on Monday tweeted a photo of the Hollywood actor wearing a T-shirt reading: "I’m for Liz Cheney" with the caption, "real men put country over party."

Tweet URLIt's unclear what's behind Costner's support. He apparently lives in Colorado, not Wyoming where Cheney is behind in her bid to win reelection.

Polls show she trails primary challenger Harriet Hageman by double digits in the Republican-leaning state, with balloting later this month.

Costner has previously described himself as an independent, and endorsed Pete Buttigieg in the 2020 Democratic primary before later supporting Joe Biden in the general election.

Other Democrats and Democrat voters support Cheney because she holds strong beliefs, beyond party politics, that former Republican President Trump shouldn't lead the country again, after the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

"The Democratic Party doesn't represent everything that I think, and neither does the Republican Party right now," Costner, who was once a Ronald Reagan Republican, said in 2020. "I find it too limiting."
