Ex-CNN anchor Chris Cuomo to host primetime show again but on smaller channel

Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo is return to primetime cable TV, hosting a show for NewsNation after being fired last year by CNN.

Cuomo was fired by CNN after information surfaced about the full extent of his efforts to help defend his brother, then-New York Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo, against numerous sexual harassment allegations. 

NewsNation, owned and operated Nextstar Media Inc., has a much smaller audience than CNN.

When CNN's "Cuomo Prime Time" first launched in June 2018, it averaged over 1.1 million total viewers, The Wrap reported.

NewsNation averaged 46,000 viewers during prime time last year, according to Variety

In announcing his new job Monday, during an interview with NewsNation's Dan Abrams, Cuomo pledged to "try very hard to be fair" and criticized what he called the "binary" media in the U.S. 

"We need this right now because this binary system is killing us," he said. "And the media is trapped in it very often. You can’t be criticizing the game that you are a part of." 

Cuomo also has a podcast titled "The Chris Cuomo Project."
