An alleged victim of singer R. Kelly said she is engaged to him in a letter to a judge asking for clemency, sent before he was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for sex trafficking.

"My name is Joycelyn Savage and I am the fiancée of Robert Kelly," Savage wrote in a letter to Judge Ann Donnelly. "I am writing this letter in support of Robert before his sentencing so that I can explain to the court that I am not the victim the government has portrayed."

In the letter dated June 13, Savage thoroughly describes Kelly as "an amazing person in every way" and "not the monster the government has described him to be."

"He always takes every opportunity he can to help those in need. He is very determined and focused on his goals, and the things that have been said about him, with me and other women being held against our will, are absolutely untrue. It is the complete opposite of who he is and what my relationship with Robert is like," she continues.

Savage, one of Kelly's girlfriends, wrote the letter to request a reduced sentence for the convicted sex trafficker.

The referenced media source is missing and needs to be re-embedded.

"Robert and I are deeply in love and it breaks my heart that the government has created a narrative that I am a victim," she wrote. "I am a grown woman and can speak for myself."

"I respectfully ask that the court take my words into consideration when sentencing Robert. He is a great man with a great heart and deserves to be home with his loved ones who are ready to support him," she added.

Claims that Kelly was abusing Savage escalated in November 2019 and charges were dropped against him, alleging he impregnated her twice and forced her to have an abortion.

Savage complained about Kelly’s abuse and promised to talk about her experience with the singer through the online subscription service Patreon.

However, a month later, Savage denied making these claims and said that the allegations were made by an "imposter" and that Kelly never forced her to have an abortion.

Savage has been living with Kelly since 2015 since she met him at age 19 at her concert. Kelly promised to help her with her music career.

The 26-year-old has spoken in his defense several times and insists she lives with him out of her own free will. But her family, who have not seen her in years, say he brainwashed and controlled her.

"We are saddened and disappointed to learn that Joycelyn Savage has said that she was not the person who operated the Patreon account," Savage's family said in response to the false accusations at the time. "We deeply wish to hear her story and in her own voice outside the presence of Robert Sylvester Kelly or anyone associated with him."

Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sex trafficking and child molestation on June 29. His sentencing follows a six-week trial last year that amplified allegations the singer has been pursuing since the 1990s.

Several women have accused Kelly of sex trafficking, alleging that he controlled their movements and subjected them to sexual abuse.
