The person of interest who was arrested on Monday in connection with the mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in a Chicago suburb was identified as a local amateur rapper with a history of bizarre social media postings.
Robert E. "Bobby" Crimo III, 22, was arrested shortly after FBI agents visited his family's home in Highwood, Illinois, about a mile from the scene of the Highland Park shooting where at least six people were killed, WGN-TV reported.
An IMDb page under the name Bobby Crimo describes him as a "rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and director" from the Chicago area that is known professionally as Awake The Rapper.
"The hip hop phenomenon is mainly known for his hit song 'On My Mind,' which was released on October 8, 2018. The song has amassed millions of plays so far on online streaming platforms," the bio reads.
Crimo started uploading music when he was 11 years old. The page claims his net worth is $100,000.
"Awake The Rapper, a six-foot-tall hip hop phenom, was born Robert Eugene Crimo III on September 20, 2000 in Chicago," it continues. "He is the middle child of three and of Italian descent."
Crimo had posted a video on his now-deleted YouTube page that included a drawing of someone who appeared to be shot dead by police, according to screenshots posted on networks.
He also shared a music video titled "Are You Awake" in October 2021, which had drawings of a man pointing a rifle at a person.
The video also showed an image of a newspaper clipping about Lee Harvey Oswald, who killed President John F. Kennedy.
His father, also named Robert Crimo, ran for mayor of Highland Park in 2019 but lost to Mayor Nancy Rotering, WGN-TV reported. His father has not released a statement.
Crimo also posted at least twice about former President Donald Trump, according to NBC News. He was seen holding a Trump flag in a June 27, 2021, Twitter post. Another video posted on his YouTube page shows Crimo cheering for Trump's presidential motorcade outside an airport on Jan. 2, 2021.
The Independence Day parade in Highland Park, a neighborhood 40 kilometers north of Chicago, left attendees running for their lives after shots were fired into the crowd around 10:20 a.m.
Highland Park police and reinforcements from other jurisdictions responded to the scene, where six people were killed and 30 others were injured.
