Ricky Martin legally married his partner Jwan Yosef in 2018. At that time, both decided to celebrate their wedding intimately with their closest family members. They promised, however, to have a wedding "in style." To this day the big party has not happened.
"What happens is that we never fight, but when we fight is when we talk about the wedding because he wanted a big wedding and I wanted something a little more intimate, and then he wanted the wedding more intimate and I said: 'No, let's do it big'. That is always the conflict, which in reality is not a conflict," the Puerto Rican explained to Pati Chapoy on the Mexican program Ventaneando.
"We get nervous when we talk about these big wedding productions, but it was so intimate, we did it like that because we looked at each other when we saw that his parents were with us, they had traveled to visit us, my parents were with us; we looked at each other and said, 'Let's do it now, let's go get the judge,' and that's how my wedding was, very intimate, there weren't even 15 people. And then the wedding for friends will come, and we will let you know, but we are going to wait a little bit longer," he said.
So, will there be a big celebration? "We're going to wait a little bit longer," he said.
In the interview, Ricky talked about how he met Jwan Yosef. "[It was] on social media, we met on Instagram, I collect conceptual artists, and obviously through the algorithm I get his art, and I said, 'What a nice art, who is the painter,' and then I see the painter and I say, 'Ah, what a nice painter,'" said the singer of the Syrian-born Swedish artist.
The rest is history. "We were talking through social media, not on the phone, in a very platonic way for six months, and according to us, we solved the world with our conversations," he said.
His beautiful family with the artist—his children Valentino, Mateo, Renn, and Lucia— doesn't need big parties to celebrate their relationship.
"[We maintain our relationship] with a lot of honesty and a lot of transparency, we talk and talk about life, about everything, and we are two men who are strong and loving, respectful and in love. We fall in love every day, and we go to bed hugging each other every day," he said.
