Madonna, 63, released an NFT collection that includes videos of her avatar giving birth to a tree, a centipede, and a butterfly. The collection also includes a 3D model of Madonna's vagina.
In a press release, the "Queen of Pop" described the material as a "labor of love" that was made over the past few months with digital artist Beeple (Mike Winkelmann), who sold an NFT last year for $69 million.
The NFT collection, named "Mother of Creation," will be sold for charity. The collection revolves around the idea of creation and motherhood, and each of the three pieces in the collection represents a different form of birth in contemporary life.
"I wanted to investigate the concept of creation, not only the way a child enters the world through a woman's vagina but also the way an artist gives birth to creativity," Madonna explained.
“In a cold laboratory environment, with no sign of life, an opening gives way to a branch that transforms into a full, vibrant tree," the site reads. "Push against gravity and flowers bloom. The tree may bend or even break, but it continues to recreate and bloom. This work presents a new text by Madonna."
In case this wasn’t surprising enough, a second art piece, titled "Mother of Evolution," shows Madonna giving birth to butterflies. "One of nature's most beautiful creations and a sign of hope," according to the artists.
"The butterflies are a metaphor for the paradox that the world is burning in a post-apocalyptic scene, but there is still evidence of life," the site notes. "We continue to give birth, no matter what destruction is occurring, no matter what oppression we face. It conveys the important message that if you're waiting for the world to be perfect or your life to be perfect to create art, it will never happen. We have to do it for our own survival in this chaotic and unpredictable world."
Another video, titled "Mother of Technology," highlights Madonna's private parts. This time she is giving birth to insects to demonstrate "the way science can also give light to the world, but only if used with the right conscience."
“‘Mother of Technology’ takes place in a beautiful forest and depicts how science can also bring light to the world, but only if used with the right awareness. The centipede represents technology, both the life-giving force and its dangers, the juxtaposition of darkness and light. Technology continues to evolve in the physical, natural, real world; we can do whatever we want, but that has consequences. Nature will ultimately win in the end. The play presents the poetry of Rumi," the website states.
The work also features Madonna's song, "Justify My Love," along with original music by Igor Bardykin.
"We can do whatever we want, but that has consequences. Nature will eventually win in the end," declared the artistic duo.
"When Mike and I decided to collaborate on this project a year ago, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to share my view of the world as a mother and artist with Mike's unique point of view," said Madonna. "It has been an incredible journey building this together from an intellectual idea to an emotional story, giving birth to art."
"These 3 NFTS are a year-long labor of love in development, as both artists partnered to connect with the idea of creation and motherhood through these visualizations," they added.
The three artworks will be auctioned this May 11 through NFT's SuperRare marketplace. All proceeds from the collection will go to three charities: Voices of Children Foundation, City of Joy Foundation, and Black Mama's Bail Out, all of which are "focused on supporting women and children around the world."
Moonpay, a cryptocurrency platform that helped with the project, will also donate $100,000 to each of the aforementioned charities.
Meanwhile, the pop singer has shared details of "Finally Enough Love," the upcoming remix album to be released by the American singer on August 19, 2022, via Warner Records.
