Gloria and Emilio Estefan have been married for 46 years, but their relationship runs much deeper and has been shaped by years of dating and the development of a close working relationship that extends to the world of music and real estate.
With such a loving partner waiting at home, it makes sense that Gloria would react with both surprise and a smile when asked about her next foray onto the big screen.
The Latin pop legend will join renowned actor Andy Garcia as the “parents of the bride” in the latest take of the legendary film “The Father of the Bride,” directed by Gaz Alazraki and set to be released on HBO Max on June 16. In the movie, the Miami-based Cuban-American couple will work through the trials and tribulations of wedding planning when their daughter, played by Adria Arjona, brings home a handsome young Mexican groom played by Diego Boneta.
Given the plot’s intricacies, however, Gloria and Andy will exchange more than a few affectionate gestures while the cameras roll – and audiences will even see the two share a passionate kiss.
In an interview with People en Español, Gloria revealed her husband’s reaction to the lip-locking affair.
"Emilio and Andy have been friends for decades, and if I had to kiss another man after the 46 years we've been together.... he's happy that it's Andy," the singer and actress joked.
For his part, Andy Garcia is thrilled that the classic – which starred Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor in the 1950s and was later modernized by Steve Martin in the 1990s -- is set to be revitalized with "respect" for the original story and, at the same time, showcasing the day-to-day life of families of Cuban and Mexican origin residing in the United States.
"This new modern and cultural twist I believe not only respects the previous versions, but shines with its own light, exploring the idiosyncrasies of these Cuban and Mexican families, with style, warmth and humor," said the incombustible performer.
