Britney Spears posted a clip to Instagram Stories on Friday of fellow pop star Christina Aguilera refusing to answer a reporter on whether she’d had any contact with Spears since she was freed from her 13-year long conservatorship.

Spears’ clip shows Aguilera’s publicist cutting in and telling the reporter, “No, I’m sorry, we’re not doing this tonight,” before pulling her away from any further questions.

Aguilera then managed to get a few words over her shoulder, saying “I can’t, but I’m happy for her!”

The video was taken at the Latin Grammy Awards on Thursday, where Aguilera performed.

Spears expressed her frustrations with the non-response in a post that accompanied the video, which reads, “I love and adore everyone who supported me… but refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie !!!! 13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about ??? I’m the one who went through it !!!!”

Earlier this year, Aguilera had posted in support of Spears’ efforts to escape the conservatorship after she testified

“It is unacceptable that any woman or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish,” Aguilera tweeted in June, accompanied by a childhood photo of the two together.

Spears and Aguilera both got their start in show business as Mouseketeers on Disney’s variety show, The Micky Mouse Club, before each became pop stars in their own right.

The movement to #FreeBritney gained momentum in 2019 after details that Spears had her Las Vegas show canceled and was confined to a mental health facility because she refused to take prescribed medications and had broken a rule that banned her from driving.

Her legal efforts resulted in her emancipation from her conservatorship on November 12.
