All this was happening as the live broadcast of the awards was a few seconds out of sync for the U.S. and the show's production was trying to mute the words Smith was shouting from his seat.
The biggest scandal in the 94 years of the Oscars Awards happened in its 2022 edition. Renowned actor Will Smith got up on the main stage to stop Chris Rock's stand-up and punch him in the face after making a bad joke about his wife's hair. This happened minutes before Smith won the award for best actor.
It didn't take a second for the incident to go viral on the interwebs, making headlines worldwide. However, during his winning speech, Will was emotional and admitted that "love makes you do crazy things." Yet the night's winner did not apologize to Rock for his assault. Chris confirmed through LAPD a few hours later that he would not press charges for the celebrity's unexpected reaction.
The slap was not the only highlight of the night. Will's outburst continued for a few brief seconds as he returned to his seat while repeatedly shouting, "Keep my wife's name out of your damn mouth." An awkward silence fell over the gala as Chris Rock responded by saying, "I'm going to do it, okay?" And he closed the historical scene with the line, "That was the greatest night in the history of television." It was clear who was in charge of the halftime show.
Jake, who has made the substantial offer, last fought in December 2021 when he knocked out former champion Tyron Woodley in the sixth round. The influencer is targeting a sixth professional fight in five months, although his opponent is unknown.
