Kyiv prosecutors identified the Russian serviceman who killed an unarmed man and suddenly raped his wife in front of her son in Kyiv. The Russian soldier is now wanted for capture for the terrible act.

Ukrainian Prosecutor-General Iryna Venediktova claimed that the Russian soldier broke into a house and shot the owner.

“In one of the villages of Brovarsky district, this man broke into a private house and shot the owner. After that, a drunk occupant and his co-worker repeatedly raped the wife of a murdered civilian, threatening her with violence and weapons. Even threatened her minor child who was with the victim,” she posted on her Facebook.

The prosecutor also claimed that the Ukrainian government continues to receive reports of sexual crimes committed by Russian soldiers in the occupied Ukrainian territories and other places she calls "hot spots."

Armed conflicts increase the risk of violence against women and sexual crimes against them. This case is Ukraine’s first "official" case of sexual violence by Russian troops, reported El Confidencial.

Throughout history, there have been conflicts in which women are used as weapons of war, said the NGO Ayuda en Acción. The organization added that during conflicts, there are also countless cases of rape or sexual violence both within and outside the couple.

A 2019 UNFPA study revealed that internally displaced women and girls experiencing gender-based violence were three times higher than non-displaced women and girls.

In 2018, Ukraine’s separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk saw an increase in gender-based violence of 76% and 158%, respectively, compared to the previous three years, according to Amnesty International.

In the first days of the conflict, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Russian soldiers of committing rape in different Ukrainian cities.

"Soldiers rape women in the occupied cities, and we have numerous cases, unfortunately... When Russian soldiers rape women in Ukrainian cities, it is difficult, of course, to talk about the effectiveness of international law," he said.
