In his latest attempt to secure the Texas-Mexico border, Governor Gregg Abbot lined up around 20 shipping containers to create a wall that would keep undocumented migrants from crossing the border.
On Wednesday, the containers of the “steel wall” were placed along the riverbank next to the international bridge that connects Eagle Pass with Mexico. A fleet of Department of Public Safety (DPS) patrol cars and officers are stationed behind the containers, said Abbott in a Tweet.

The steel wall operation, dubbed Steel Curtain by the DPS, will include “concertina wire – as well as personnel and equipment along the border in order to block and repel criminal activity and stop violations of state law,” said DPS spokesperson Ericka Miller.
On October 28, Abbot mentioned the idea of using shipping containers as a means to secure the border during an interview on Fox News.
Abbot has made immigration enforcement a priority for his administration. His plans for strengthening the border include building more barriers, arresting migrants crossing the Rio Grande, deploying the National Guard along the border and suing the Biden administration for its “open-border” policies.
In September, troopers created a wall of patrol vehicles along the international bridge to stop more than 15,000 asylum seekers who had gathered in the area.
