A group of fishermen was surprised to find a colossal great white shark swimming close to their boat along the Jersey shore over the weekend.

The fishermen’s videos soon went viral after one of the recordings was shared on Facebook by the Cape May Coast Guard Station.

"Look at this monster!" one of the men on the boat is heard saying as he encounters the huge animal.

The Cape May Coast Guard estimated that the shark was at least 12 feet long. However, it is common to find these huge specimens in New Jersey waters this time of year.

A nearly 1,000-pound great white shark named Ironbound was spotted in New Jersey waters while swimming off the state's east coast. OCEARCH, which tracks several tagged sharks, said its last record was reported on April 28.

OCEARCH also tagged and tracked a female great white shark of at least 16 feet and 3,456 pounds named Mary Lee, which has prowled the entire East Coast since 2012. She was last tracked on June 17, 2017, in the waters off South Jersey.

Several factors, including warming ocean temperatures, contribute this summer to the rise of sharks along the coast in the New York City region.

Scientists say the sharks are swimming north to find cooler waters, according to Telemundo.

Although shark attacks are very rare, some dangerous species, such as bull sharks and tiger sharks, are known to swim in shallow waters.

Experts advise people not to swim alone, in turbid waters or at dawn or dusk, and to avoid being near seals or schools of fish.
