Mexico’s hottest reality television show just keeps getting hotter.

Barbara Torres, one of the most controversial participants in 'La Casa de los Famosos' (The Celebrity House Mexico), was voted off the show on Sunday.

The show, Mexico’s version of ‘Big Brother’ revolves around a group of celebrities who live together in a house while being filmed around the clock, despite being restricted from communicating with cameramen or anyone on the outside.

The audience acts as the jury, judge and executioner as to which participant gets evicted every week, and the last one to remain wins $200,000.

Torres was the show’s loner. She was the only participant who declined to join one of show’s two teams: Heaven and Hell, names given after the participants were divided into two different parts of the estate.

Torres’ expulsion came after a turbulent week filled with ups and downs, the result of strong arguments that erupted between various characters such as Wendy Guevara and Apio Quijano.

One of the more strategic characters, Torres was accused of playing other celebs against each another. Just when tension surrounding the controversial Mexican celeb was cooling off, she heated up the tension by going on the offensive against members of both teams.

She insulted Jorge Losa and told Poncho de Nigris he was “not cool,” adding he had acted in a manner that was ”very low,” a shocking turn since she previously supported him.

When she finally faced exile, the actress who gave life to "Exelsa" in "the P. Luche family" of Eugenio Derbez made a plea to the audience, urging the public to save her, saying she did not wish to leave the house. By the end of the stay however, she appeared to have changed her mind and said that she was ready for her departure.

As she left the house, the surviving cast members stood outside the house to bid her farewell.

There, her son, Jose Ignacio was waiting, and made a powerful statement in defense of his mother, saying, "I want to say something, a lot was said about this woman on social networks. I had never heard such ugly things, just as you have a mother, I ask you to respect mine."

A look of sadness, confusion, and worry appeared on the actress's face, and in a surprising turn of events, issued an apology.

“I apologize to all,” she said. “I think that when we are all at home, we say things without thinking. It's just that we don't have 68 cameras watching, and nobody judges us. I am not justifying myself, nor am I portraying myself as a victim…”

With only a few weeks left in this season’s show, the grand finale is shaping up, leaving millions across Mexico on the edge of their seat.

The program "La casa de los famosos" has been a success on Telemundo in recent years. It is similar to "Big Brother VIP" which was a huge hit on Televisa in Mexico a couple of decades ago. Televisa acquired the television rights to the Telemundo show so that they could make their own version of the show with a larger budget in order to hire a more recognizable cast and gain greater media exposure.

Using the VIX app, Televisa grants 24/7 access to the program Monday through Sunday, except on Saturday. The dynamics of the program vary from day to day, beginning with a nomination on Wednesday, continuing with the expulsion of a participant from the house on Sunday.
