Eight Americans die in tragic car accident in Mexico

The maternal grandmother of two of the victims, recognized the van in which her family was traveling through images that were shared online, and that she knew it was them when she saw the Indiana license plates on the burned-out van

Eight residents of Frankfort, Indiana, including four family members and three minors, were killed in a tragic car accident in the city of Matehuala, San Luis Potosí state, Mexico.

The crash occurred early Sunday morning when the vehicle they were traveling in collided with an overturned trailer, according to local authorities.

The names of the victims are Guadalupe García, Fernando García, Jesús Ángeles, Jocelyn Mejía García, Jesús Mejía García, Blanca Guzmán and her one-month-old baby, and María Cuevas, according to the statement from the Frankfort Police Department and the Frankfort Community Schools.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the Mexican authorities.

Belinda Mondragón, maternal grandmother of two of the victims of the tragic accident, recognized the van in which her family was traveling through images that were shared online.

Mondragón affirmed that her relatives left Frankfort, Indiana on Thursday and that she knew it was them when she saw the Indiana license plates on the burned-out van.

The Secretary for Migrants and International Liaison of Mexico reported that a work team has been commissioned to transfer the relatives of the victims from Tarandacuao to Matehuala, San Luis Potosí to carry out the corresponding procedures and procedures.
