A woman from the suburbs of Seattle, Washington, who had been missing for two weeks, was found dead this Monday in a local cemetery in Mexicali, Mexico.

Reyna Hernández, 54, was found in the Tijuana Highway cemetery, nearly 1,300 miles from Seattle, the Renton, Washington Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Hernandez disappeared Feb. 26 from her home in south Renton, Washington. Friends told police she had been running some errands before returning home. Two days later, Hernández was reported missing after she did not open her salon or answer her phone, according to the police release.

Detectives learned of Hernández's possible whereabouts on March 8, after finding a newspaper article with news from Mexicali about the discovery of an unidentified body on the highway in Tijuana, a port of entry between the United States and Mexico near of the border with California.

Over the weekend, investigators contacted Mexican authorities, who provided enough information to positively identify Hernandez.

Mexico police arrested a 61-year-old Renton resident on unrelated charges, but for now he is considered the prime suspect in the woman's disappearance and possible murder, according to the Renton police Facebook post.

The suspect remains in custody in Mexico, where the victim's vehicle was also found.

An investigation remains ongoing.
