Seven Mexicans die in tragic Mississippi bus accident

The Mississippi Highway Patrol says six of the victims died at the scene of the accident, while the seventh passed away at the hospital

Seven Mexican citizens died as a result of a bus accident that occurred last Saturday morning. Now the authorities have revealed the identities of the victims, among whom are three minors.

Warren County Coroner Doug L. Huskey told ABC News that the children Angélica Palomino, 16, Kain Gutiérrez, 8, and his sister Perla Gutiérrez, 16, were among those who lost their lives after the bus, owned by the Mexican transportation company Autobuses Regiomontanos, overturned on Interstate I- 20 East, while heading from Georgia to Texas.

The bodies of Miguel Arriaga, 61 years old, were also identified. Elia Guzmán, 63 years old; and the brothers Moisés and Víctor Avilés García, 30 and 32 years old respectively.

Reports from the Mississippi Highway Patrol, cited by ABC News, state that six of them died at the scene of the accident, while the seventh died at the Merit Health River Region Hospital in Vicksburg.

The Autobuses Regiomontanos company transports passengers between Mexico and the United States. It is headquartered in Monterrey, Nuevo León, but has several offices in its neighboring country to coordinate its operations.

“All passengers go through appropriate immigration controls and must show their passports or visas to enter Mexico or the United States,” company spokesperson Miranda Fernández told CNN.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) of Mexico, 43 people were traveling on the bus, including the driver and co-pilot, and in addition to the deceased, there were another ten people of Mexican origin.
