Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum believes her country has been ready for a woman president “for a long time.”

But according to the mayor, the issue on hand is not gender. What’s on the plate includes the “Fourth Transformation” and Mexico’s national trajectory. Sheinbaum told Milenio, “we must give all of our support to the president of the republic.”

During her visit to Colima, where she assisted Indira Vizcaíno’s investiture, Sheinbaum asserted that women are ready to hold serve in all public offices.

“We are part of the transformation of public life in Mexico; that is to say, we are not only women, but rather part of that transformation,” Sheinbaum told El Universal.

The head of government began a tour of different Mexican states on Friday. While on the road, she attended a conference, hosted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during which Mexico City’s vaccination strategy was outlined.

On Saturday, Sheinbaum was a guest at the 50th Cervantino Festival, and on Sunday she attended the swearing in of Marina de Pilar Ávila as governor of Baja California, Aristegui Noticias reported.

Mayor Sheinbaum’s time on the road has come under fire, however. Jorge Triana, from the National Action Party (PAN), asked her to get to work, as that is “what people pay her for.”

In the same vein, former Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare Javier Lozano accused Sheinbaum of launching a premature campaign. Sheinbaum retorted, however, assuring that her tour was self-funded and that public money was not in question.

These public criticisms can be added to the list of complaints over Sheinbaum’s recent activities, which include her handing out Child Welfare Scholarships, pensions for the elderly, as well as personal and housing loans, Expansíon Politica reports.

PAN Senator Kenia López Rabadán filed a complaint on Monday about alleged constitutional violations committed by Sheinbaum’s administration. With this, she asked the Electoral Institute of Mexico City to issue precautionary measures to stop the personalized promotion with social programs and the alleged misuse of public resources.
