9-year-old girl and her father wounded in Mexico City shooting

A 9-year-old girl and her father were wounded on Saturday after a gunshot broke through their car window as they were driving along the Miguel Hidalgo district of Mexico City.

Relatives of Francisco Javier, a Mexican-American national living in the state of Jalisco, told El Universal on Tuesday that he had gone to pick up his daughter when he was attacked. After being shot, Francisco was able to call his family to let them know what happened before heading to the hospital for emergency treatment for him and his daughter.

According to the medical report, Francisco arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, left shoulder, right shoulder and left arm. His daughter was shot in the right thigh.

After the attack, police officers were notified subsequently began patrolling the streets around the hospital. They are currently awaiting Francisco to be discharged from intensive care in order to question him about the event.

Earlier this month on May 23, Mexican news sources reported a shooting inside a building located in the Cuauhtemoc district, which left three people dead.

The attacker entered the building and opened fire on a 55-year-old woman and two men, aged 60 and 55, and fled immediately after. The two men were lawyers, while the woman worked inside the office, according to unofficial reportscompiled by Infobae.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security of the Mexican capital indicated that it could be a direct attack against the victims, although it did not give details.

According to reporter Carlos Jiménez, the perpetrator allegedly shot at the victims in order to steal a suitcase.
