Uruguay qualified for the World Cup by beating Peru 1-0 on Thursday. Now, the team has to win a play-off to make it to Qatar 2022. Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored late in the first half, and the "Celeste" managed to preserve the minimal advantage to dispute their fourth consecutive World Cup.

The victory left Uruguay in fourth place in the South American qualifiers with 25 points, the same as Ecuador, third on goal difference. The duel at the Centenario stadium ended with controversy after Peru's Miguel Trauco sent in a cross that goalkeeper Sergio Rochet kept inside his goal. The video referee reviewed the action but did not award the goal, while the Peruvian players complained angrily.

This "phantom goal" allowed Ecuador to pass in its fourth time in World Cup history, even though the "Tricolor" succumbed 3-1 against Paraguay. Roberto Morales, Piero Hincapié in his own goal, and Miguel Almirón scored for the "Albirroja." In contrast, Jordy Caicedo could only score for Ecuador, which was celebrated at the end of the match in Uruguay.

Brazil beat Chile 4-0 and left "La Roja" clinging to a miracle to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar via the playoffs. Neymar, Vinicius Jr., Philippe Coutinho, and Richarlison scored the goals for the "Verdeamarela" at the Maracana stadium to continue their unbeaten run in the South American qualifiers. After 16 matches, Tite's team won its 13th victory and reached 42 points to lead the table.

Finally, Colombia, who was struggling with the goal had its reconciliation with the goal and with the aspirations of advancing to the World Cup through the playoffs, crushed Bolivia 3-0. Luis Díaz opened the scoring at the Metropolitano stadium in Barranquilla, while Miguel Borja and Matheus Uribe closed the scoring.

The qualifiers end on Friday with Argentina's already qualified match against eliminated Venezuela. The main attraction will be to see Lionel Messi play after recovering from the flu.
